Things to know

Culpeper County Library complies with all state and local requirements, including, masking, social distancing, limiting attendance, postponing an event and/or canceling an event, if required.

By entering, you agree to abide by any current health and safety requirements for entry into this event.

cosplay etiquette

Attendees and participants are expected to adhere to Culpeper County Library’s Code of Conduct.  That includes, but is not limited to:

keep it classy

Remember this is an all ages family-friendly event. Please wear appropriate, PG rated costume attire. Use common sense. Be considerate of other attendees. Be aware of your surroundings and potential audience.

It can get hot and sweaty in a bulky costume with all the people in the building during the event. Take appropriate measures to limit any odors.

personal hygiene

respect

Harassment of any kind is not be tolerated. With that said:

  1. Photos - Always ask permission before taking photos or videos of other cosplayers and respect their right to say no.

  2. Ask First - Cosplay is never consent. Always ask first to hug or pose with someone, and never touch them without their permission.

  3. Respect the Artist and Artistry - Don’t monopolize the guest artists’  time, and remember that other people want to speak to them, too.

  4. Respect the Attendee - Solicitation of funds to take a photo with an attendee is strictly forbidden. This is a free and open event to the public to attend.

Keep it smart

If you’re cosplaying, remember that you’re representing a character loved and looked up to by fans. Don’t do or say anything that might tarnish the image of that character.

Props/Weapons for Cosplay Players

If your costume includes a weapon or prop, we encourage Cosplay players to keep their props on their person at all times. Be aware of your surroundings before brandishing or posing with your weapon or prop. Toy or prop guns must have a bright orange, obvious tip to show they are non-working guns. Fake swords must be dull and blunt or soft (foam). In other words, be conscious of the prop you have and the props people want to see or accidentally may touch. Real weapons are not permitted.

Props/Weapons for attendees

Never pick up or handle their props without their permission.

take it easy

If you’re cosplaying, don’t forget to take breaks to rest and stay hydrated. It’s easy to get worn down quickly, especially in a heavy costume!
